Every great era must come to a close, and the same is true of Plastician’s tenure at Rinse FM, which will come to its conclusion with a final show at the end of this month. Calling time on his 14 year spell on the London radio station with a last outing on Tuesday 25th July, the dubstep and grime specialist will be remembered for leading the way in promoting London sounds, having also presented BBC Radio 1’s first ever grime and dubstep show.
“It is with heavy heart that I’m writing this to announce that I’ve decided to step down from my weekly slot on Rinse FM”, Plastician wrote on his facebook, announcing his departure but insisting that “Although this is the end of my weekly show, my relationship with Rinse will continue”. Keen to take a break from broadcasting before returning on a Facebook based platform, the DJ offered special thanks to Dugs, Slimzee and Geeneus for their part in his illustrious Rinse career. Clearly the importance of the wider Rinse community was also not lost on him, as the post finished with an ode to the listeners: “Of course I also have to thank all of the listeners in my time there - old and new, you guys are the reason I turn up every week with new music.”
If you’re going to Outlook Festival in Croatia this summer then you can catch Plastician in the flesh, as he will be part of a lineup that also boasts AJ Tracey, Digital Mystikz, Bugzy Malone and more. The festival runs from Thursday 7th to Monday 11th September at Tvrđava Punta Christo, and the last remaining tickets are still available.
