Ricardo Villalobos returns to MiNT Warehouse for his annual terrace party on Sunday 6th May, delivering the freaky oddball selections that have made him one of dance music’s best loved selectors. Completing a hattrick of successive years at the 15 hour long party, Villalobos will bring a few high-profile friends along for the ride as he joins system. and Set One Twenty at MiNT’s larger venue.
A mad scientist of house and techno, Ricardo is praised as highly as anyone else in underground dance music, his penchant for late hour marathons and the weirder side of dance music earning him an untouchable cult status. Flamboyantly chopping his way between audaciously minimal house, bizarre techno and disco-but-not-quite-disco oddities, he’s as loved for his eccentric and unpredictable tangents as he is for the tracks that hammer on a dancefloor, as shown in the patient devotion shown to his often challenging productions.
Also a creator of microhouse tunes that can take ten minutes to even start to resemble a recognisable genre, Villalobos is regarded as one of those musicians who operates on another level entirely - not always understood but ceaselessly appreciated. Returning to steer a familiar ship in Leeds, he’ll be setting course for unchartered territories once again this spring.
