The man, the legend that is Roy Ayers will play another night in London after four sell-out shows at The Jazz Cafe, having just added a night at XOYO to his schedule. Appearing at the Shoreditch venue on Saturday 9th December, the vibraphone king will reassert the talents that have earned him the title of ‘Godfather of neo-soul’.
Roy Ayers’ reputation comes off the back of more than half a century of action in the music industry, with dozens of albums and collaborations to his name in a career surpassed by none. His Ubiquity band were one of the most influential groups in funk, soul and jazz, and his influence is epitomised by the common belief that he is the most sampled musician in music history. Timeless tracks like “Everybody Loves The Sunshine” and “Searchin” will be familiar to all, and we recently ran through a handful of his finest efforts with an Essential Listening piece. A masterful musician, charismatic performer and a wonderful character, he’s not to be missed this winter.
