The Kuti name is one that holds such huge notoriety, as it’s the namesake of a man considered forefather of afrobeat, an absolute pioneer and innovator; Fela Kuti. Famed for not only his political power in a movement that faced a lot of backlash, but also within the music world with his band Egypt 80 pushing the boundaries of the mainstream. Since a young age, Seun Kuti, the youngest son and consequential successor of the pioneering work his father is renowned for, had expressed an interest in music and now takes on the role of recording and performing with original members of Egypt 80, touring the world with his own curated sounds and protest power of the afrobeat ingrained within his DNA. Now on his fourth full length album with the ensemble, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 head to Manchester’s Band On The Wall venue on Saturday 17th November before taking to Bristol’s Thekla on Tuesday 20th November.
