Lovebox Festival took over London’s Victoria Park at the weekend, and headlining act Solange announced on stage that she had broke out of hospital to be there. She was hospitalised for an undisclosed reason after her performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland three days prior, with Doctors instructing her not to perform. The Knowles sister had other ideas, and was determined to give it her all and treat those attending to a set of selected songs from her 2016 solo debut, A Seat At The Table on the Friday evening.
“I was in hospital this morning,” the ‘Cranes in the Sky’ singer told her audience, “I was in hospital for three days. After my show I had a serious episode and was told I shouldn’t perform. And so I broke out of that bitch this morning because I knew this place was going to be filled with so much love.”
She also promised to return to London once she feels better as she “has so much more” to offer fans, although there seemed to be no complaints regarding this performance, as her voice, accompanied by a brass band and a stage drenched in red lighting, made for a truly stunning performance to close the evening. After leaving, Solange took to Twitter to show her gratitude to the crowd, writing,
“been a hell of a 72 hrs, but damn lovebox u made me feel better than any doctor could have can't put into words how much that meant to me”
Lovebox took place on the 14th and 15th July, and included performances from Frank Ocean, Sampha, Jess Glynne, Chase and Status and more.
