A brand new cohort of artists has joined the bill for Madness’ House Of Common festival, with Jazzie B’s Soul II Soul, embodiment of Good Times Sound System Norman Jay, Dennis Bovell and Sherwood & Pinch featuring in the additions.
Taking place at Clapham Common, London, on Monday 27th August, the day long extravaganza will see Camden natives Madness take a ride on the over-ground to South London and supply a headline performance, while seminal selector David Rodigan and hip-hop trio De La Soul are also set to appear.
There’s never a shortage of grooves cascading through the atmosphere on Bank Holiday Monday in London, but Clapham Common will be one particular hot spot thanks to the presence of Norman Jay and Soul II Soul. A discernable voice of the capital’s early pirate radio scene, Norman Jay has been sharing his knowledge of everything from house and rare groove, right through to drum & bass and soul for the best part of 30 years – not to mention holding down an extensive tenure as leader of Good Times Sound System at Notting Hill Carnival. With the iconic Soul II Soul also on the bill, it’s unlikely that the House Of Common party will need bringing back to life (or reality for that matter) throughout the course of the day.
