Celebrating their first year anniversary, Southbound are to bring huge lineups to London’s Electric Brixton venue for a series of parties to signal 365 days of bringing the best in bass culture; having hosted some of the best DJs, selectors and emcees in that time, one party just wouldn’t be enough.
On Friday, 8th September, the huge venue will see pioneer of 90s US hip hop Pete Rock. Famed for his experimentation within other genres, Rock’s mix of classic hip hop beats merged with jazzy elements can be heard live in the first of this party series. He’ll be joined by High Focus representatives Leaf Dog, BVA, Verb T and Jam Baxter.
Former frontman of seminal band The Streets, Mike Skinner will take it back to the days of old skool garage as the genre will be put head to head with the UK bassline scene. With a lineup consisting of supergroup UKG, which borrows members from So Solid Crew, Wookie and promises the appearance of a very special guest, as well as bass heavyweights Preditah b2b Bassboy and more.
Big in both personality and talent, as well as by name, Big Narstie will take the headline slot in his native London borough on Friday 29th September, delivering his fire flow bars live and guaranteeing nothing short of an electric performance. Joining him will be Tottenham emcee CASisDEAD, the UK rap collective that were tipped off as one’s to watch this year, Harlem Spartans, young drill newcomer SL as well as BBC 1Xtra’s Sian Anderson.
