When it comes to legends of hip hop, The Sugarhill Gang can take that title with confidence, being responsible for getting the first ever rap song into the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 for their seminal single, ‘Rapper’s Delight’. Known for their use of funk, soul and disco cuts in their sampling - famously using the distinctive sound of Chic’s ‘Good Times’ in their most renowned track - while collectively rapping over the contemporary style of sampling, the group of talented emcees own a deserved slot in the hip hop hall of fame. They’ll be taking their stample sound of a classic New York genre to the UK this summer, alongside other rap royalty as they’re joined by Grandmaster Melle Mel and Scorpio of Furious Five.
This all star hip hop lineup takes to Bristol’s Trinity Centre on Tuesday 15th August.
