Two absurdly talented selectors take to Wire on Friday 9th February, as Vera and Jane Fitz star at Butter Side Up’s first event of 2018. Returning to their beloved home in Leeds with the esteemed guests, the BSU crew will send forward Jonny Sleight as their representative on warmup duties, and you can expect them to pick up exactly where they left off in 2017, with another sterling party in the Call Lane basement.
Well known to Berlin crowds and a regular at minimal institutions like Get Perlonizes!, Robert Johnson and CDV, Vera Heindel is a cultured orchestrator of techno and house explorations, counting the likes of Ricardo Villalobos and Z@P as her peers. Co-founder of the deep, cosmic groove wealthy label Melliflow and a producer with releases on Cargo Edition and Love Letters From Oslo, Vera’s taste is placed on a pedestal even in a city as packed with tastemakers as Berlin is, marking her out as a uniquely intriguing curator.
Fighting the London corner, Jane Fitz holds a similarly revered reputation, earned through years of touring, an unimaginably extensive record collection and lauded sets at Free Rotation and her own Night Moves party. Loved in Leeds following plenty of exhilarating performances at Wire and Distrikt in recent years, she can dip into anything from ambient to dub and then crash her way through some of the best techno you’ve ever heard as if it were made to be played together, a skill that only the most proficient and imaginative DJs are able to pull off. A good match for Vera, Jane will bring fireworks to a night that promises to reinforce the idea that nobody goes deeper in Leeds than Butter Side Up.
