Wiley’s contribution to music has been recognised by the Royal Family as he’s to be awarded an MBE. Known as the Godfather as grime to the majority of those familiar with the genre, Richard Cowie, known largely by his performing alias Wiley, is regarded as a pioneer of what is now considered a widely celebrated style of music, with many associated acts dominating the mainstream music scene. Since grime’s inception, Wiley was considered one of the pioneering pillars of a style that combined garage tinted beats with undoubtable talent in emceeing. The rapper has since gone on to release over ten studio albums, with another promised to be on the way and his bars featuring in too many tracks to count. From a humbling Bow background, all the way to Buckingham Palace, Wiley receiving an MBE is a moment that will surely go down in history.
Wiley heads to Bristol’s Motion on the date of his brand new album release, as he’ll be offering live renditions on Friday 23rd February. The Godfather then takes to the Midlands as his tour in support of this long awaited release takes to Nottingham’s Brickworks on Saturday 24th February.
