A new collaboration between Katy B, Four Tet and Floating Points has just come to light on Soundcloud through Rinse FM.
Katy B is well known for her vocal work with a diverse array of producers including the likes of Gorgon City, KDA and Keys N Krates. Up until now her dance studded music has always favoured the commercial side of the music spectrum, be it vocalizing dubstep or a big room deliverance. Just a few days ago however this new collaboration with underground house stalwarts Floating Points and Four Tet saw her go off on an impressive tangent.
Calm Down is the first single from Katy’s new project called Honey, which will see her teaming up with a selection of artists and producers from an even more diverse area of the spectrum that was as of yet, unexplored. This particular track sees Four Tet’s signature clicks and claps layered between a big bassline and a load of other spellbinding elements. There are strings, synth hits and pads that all in all create a piece of music that rings with Floating Points’ signature dreaminess, which Katy has provided vocals for.
Without the vocals the instrumental track is something rather impressive in itself, maintaining the underground flair that Floating Points and Four Tet have built to give off. Katy’s vocal gives it an accessibility without ultimately destroying the sound, which is something that has become commonplace with the upsurge of dance music in commercial music. Here though, there’s nothing to dislike.
