Marcel Dettmann is the latest recruit for the DJ Kicks series, and with the mix now finished we can mark October 14th as the day to get excited about. With previously unheard material from his own studio included in the 19 track mix and tracks from Orlando Voorn, Vex, Sterac and Sandbenders also making a guest appearance, Dettmann will be hoping that this latest release will reiterate why he is considered one of techno’s biggest players.
The October edition is the result of plenty of digging from Marcel, as he looked to explore the dustier corners of his record collection and put together a mix for home rather than the club. Having been buying records for a quarter of a century, the famous Berghain resident has plenty of range to draw from, and the new mix sees him dip into various shades of techno and house in a “reflective” look at tracks that Dettmann thinks have been underappreciated in recent years. Following on from a fantastic previous DJ Kicks which saw Jackmaster skip through genres with exclusive tracks from Tessela, Alcatraz Harry and Denis Sulta, Dettmann has some big boots to fill, but that shouldn’t be a problem for the German giant.
Just a few weeks after the mix is released, Dettmann can be caught in Bristol playing at the Just Jack Halloween party for In:Motion, alongside Jane Fitz, Marcellus Pittman and plenty of other cream of the crop selectors on October 29th.
