Red Bull’s Music Academy is a travelling series of world-class music events and workshops that aim to give a platform to those who try or do make a difference within the music scene of today. The academy, which has visited Leeds a number of times, has yet to throw an event within the confines of the cities most heralded clubbing nucleus, Mint Club. As this just won’t do, the population is being treated to a three way back to back from some of the best in the industry on Friday the 27th of February.
An unlikely trio if ever there was one, Red Bull have invited three DJs who are all, in their own right, fantastic. A chance to catch all three playing together is an opportunity you probably won’t get again. First up is garage come techno stalwart Joy O, whose crossover releases on Hotflush, Swamp 81 and SunkLo have captured fans worldwide. Most known for tracks like ‘Ellipsis’, ‘Swims’, 'Big Room Tech House DJ Tool' and his debut single ‘Hyph Mngo’, Joy O is capable of fabricating both atmospheric, easy to listen to house and heart pounding techno at ease, also tending to blend the two together in his performances.
Panorama Bar resident Ryan Elliott is someone who is no stranger to Mint Club, having played twice for the clubs former Thursday night knees up Teknicolor. Again fond of a wide spectrum of sounds, Elliott has wowed Leeds with his magical array of sounds. Put this with an extensive back catalogue on some of the best labels around including Ostgut Ton, Work Them and Sushitech, you have an artists who never disappoints. The final addition to this trio of superb artists is Evan Baggs, an American DJ and producer hailing from NYC, who through word of mouth has become one of the most talked about examples of up and coming talent exported from the US.
The diversity of these DJs will create something rather epic next month at Mint Presents. Rest assured you will hear everything from house to techno through garage and other less likely cuts, forming a mammoth 6-hour performance that shouldn’t be missed.
