Thanks to mono_cult, over the years, NYD in Leeds has well and truly become the day to party, comfortably putting the old traditions of New Years Eve in their place and if you’ve never been to one of these parties you’re in for treat as the multi room Faversham is transformed with marquee’s, outside stages and more, creating more of a festival vibe for the mammoth 14 hour party.
In this, part 2 (of 3) of our mono_cult NYD 2013 preview series, we will be taking a look at the second 3 headliners; Mano Le Tough, Krystal Klear and Lauer, whilst getting you well and truly psyched for the big day.
If you missed part 1 of our mono_cult NYD preview you can find it here.
Mano Le Tough
Niall Mannion’s (AKA Mano Le Tough) releases on labels such as Buzzin‘ Fly and Dirt Crew have seen him rise to an acclaimed and respected position worldwide, taking in DJ bookings for gigs at esteemed clubs/events such as Panorama Bar and the BPM festival in Mexico. The Irish producer/DJ also has his debut album, Changing Days, set for release on February 22nd 2013 on German label Permanent Vacation. The 10 track long player features 10 previously unreleased tracks which sees the producer move away from conventional house themes to feature a lot of his own vocals in a more song-orientated approach.
Here’s a deep, builder of a remix from the man himself to keep you warm till his set on NYD.
Irish born, Manchester base, Krystal Klear is someone who seems to break the mold of successful UK up and comers. With new artists often come new sounds, new labels, new blends and experiments - although the results are always novel, they aren’t always good. Krystal Klear is one who is happy to look back for inspiration and not afraid of getting a bit nostalgic when he’s behind the decks. Don’t think though for one minute the his music is out dated and irrelevant, and his June podcast for KLR8R proves this making it to number 4 in their top 10 podcasts of 2012, whilst being chocked full of old school soul, funk, and 80s/90s house. We’re also very found of his recent appearance at the Boiler Room, alongside one of his all time heroes, Kerri Chandler. Check it out below.
Perhaps better know by some as one half of Tuff City Kids or Arto Mwambe, Phillip Lauer’s solo project - punctuated by his full length long player, Phillips, released in April of this year - is very different and beginning to eclipse all previous successes. Lauer will be bringing his live show to The Faversham, Leeds for mono_cult NYD so expect a set full to the brim of his unique 80s inspired disco-house sounds.
