Alex Crossan aka Mura Masa has now tried his hand at a Boiler Room session, having been invited by Gilles Peterson to follow in the trail of Roy Ayers and Mo Kolours by recording a set from the Brownswood basement. The young deep house/future garage producer has racked up over 10 million YouTube views thanks to tracks like “What If I Go?” and “Love For That”, and has now taken to the decks under the watchful eye of Mr. P and the Boiler Room cameras.
Selecting favourites from his hip hop collection, Mura Masa initially turns to the likes of Kanye and Kendrick as well as soul sensation D’Angelo, before working his way into the downtempo techno delivered when DJ Koze got hold of Moderat’s “Bad Kingdom”. Making his way through different shades of house, percussive workouts and a standout in any set, Moodymann’s beautiful “Why Do U Feel”, Mura Masa shows off his eclectic tastes alongside some of his own productions, setting the scene perfectly for his upcoming show at the launch party for Manchester’s Warehouse Project. The show will go ahead on September 23rd.
