The latest recruits for The Doctor’s Order's Hip-Hop vs RnB nights at The Garage in London have now been announced, with the monthly Friday party set to bring DJ Semtex and Mr Thing in among their group of on rotation residents. Taking place on the last Friday of each month, the party will pit the two genres against each other with new and old classics to get people all hot and bothered.
DJ Semtex has for some time been considered somewhat of a tastemaker in London’s hip-hop circles, and has become well known for manning the BBC Radio 1Xtra decks from 10pm on Friday evenings with his flagship hip-hop show. Commissioned by Dizzee Rascal as his official touring DJ, Semtex has been doing the rounds for all sorts of big names, even playing as part of Kanye West’s UK tour. Having got into the business as a youngster in Manchester, his big break came with a move to London, and he hasn’t looked back since, going from strength to strength in the capital. He’ll be a prized acquisition for the team at The Doctor’s Orders.
Mr Thing boasts a similar reputation, having been part of the Scratch Perverts and also won the 2000 DMC UK DJ Championship. The hip-hop producer is famed for his scratched mix CDs and recently put together a tribute to US legends Pete Rock & CL Smooth, further highlighting both his deep musical knowledge and superb mixing technique. He’ll be joining Semtex as one of a rotating crew of residents who’ll be waging war on one side or another of the Hip-Hop vs RnB battle, with CJ Beatz, DJ Cable and CWD also on the list. The next party will take place on Friday 30th of September.
