New Year Club Picks 2015/2016

New Year Club Picks 2015/2016

New Years is almost upon us. It’s that time of year when the choice of what to do and where to go can reach a spoiling amount, with hundreds of club nights, live shows and festivals planned on either New Years Eve, New Years Day and in some places right over the space of both. Here we’ve picked our top parties in Leeds, London and Manchester to make that decision a little bit easier if you’re still faced with the big question of what to do.

Mono_Cult The Last Dance at Canal Mills - NYD
Mono_Cult has been one of Leeds’ most revered club nights since their first parties 8 years ago. From their involvement in The Faversham’s Bank Holiday garden parties to their own events in both London and Leeds, they have showcased quality music consistently throughout their life on the underground circuit, with everyone from Dixon to Dixon Avenue Basement Jams appearing at their many parties. This NYD party at Canal Mills will be their final stint in the city as they move onto pastures new. To send themselves off they have recruited a hell of a line-up with Nina Kraviz, Bicep, Midland and John Talabot all set to perform alongside the Mono-Cult residents.

Duke Does NYE at Duke Studios - NYE
Duke Studios is a fairly new venue to Leeds, with their Victorian Warehouse on Sheaf Street being the setting for a number of club nights, live performances and the Big Disco, an exciting event that sees the largest mirror ball in existence visit the studio’s events space. On NYE however, the lights will be fixed on the dance floor as Kaiser Saucy of The Loose Cannons will be sound tracking the evening. Dress code for the night is sequins and glitter, so expect a parade of bright individuals and the biggest house, disco and party tunes provided by Bestival’s ‘After Party DJ of choice’, who Charlie Sheen himself said has got ‘tiger blood’. If that doesn’t boost your curiosity I don’t know what will!

SubDub Meets Jungle Jam at The West Indian Centre - NYE
SubDub and Jungle Jam are the two most revered sound system parties in the city, with the music across both encompassing everything from dub through reggae to drum & bass and jungle. This meeting of the two will take place at SubDub’s home at The West Indian Centre and will see a lengthy choice of selectors descending to make some noise. Expect 2 rooms of dub, jungle and drum & bass powered by The Iration Steppas Sound System and DJs/selectors of the ilk of Om Unit, Doc Scott, Remarc, J:Kenzo, Bladerunner, Jumpin Jack Frost, Murray Man, Dan Man and many more.

Patrick Topping All Night Long at Mint Club - NYD
Mint Club will be alive with the sound of Patrick Topping on New Years Day, as he has been enlisted to perform all night long from the first tune to the very last. All night long performances are not something you see many of these days, with Patrick being a DJ not many would expect to perform one of these marathons. All the more exciting as the proprietor of some of the biggest house tracks of the past few years including Forget, Answering Machine and Stop steps up to provide a proper journey through areas of his music library we might not usually get to see.

Last Night On Earth at Electric Brixton – NYE
Sasha’s Last Night On Earth has been a staple New Years party in the capital for a long while. This year’s instalment sees the British dance legend performing for 8 whole hours, with intermittent back-to-back performances with Matt Tolfrey and Jonas Rathsman to keep things interesting. As mentioned earlier, there aren’t many DJs who get to step up to the challenge of an all night long performance, however Sasha is one particular DJ who never fails to nail the longer sets in a way not many other British DJs can. There’s a reason he has come back to play beginning to end year after year, so we suggest you check out why.

Bondax at XOYO – NYE
XOYO will be throwing parties on both New Years Eve and New Years Day this year, with the first part of the celebratory bash welcoming a trio of guests from wide across the house music spectrum. Bondax will be headlining the affair with the disco and rock tinged pleasantries whilst Chris Lorenzo will be pulling out some garage inspired house and Darius Syrossian will be serving up his signature house music sound. There are more DJs yet to be announced, however this should be more than enough to wet the appetite of any dance fan.

Arts House at XOYO – NYD
The second part of XOYO’s New Years Eve double will come from one of the clubs closest friends, Artwork. Not only has Artwork been a staple guest in the majority of residents who have held home at the club for one of the quarterly series, he has also been employed on a Friday night to throw his own party Arts House, which is what this special NYD party will take the form of. Arts House sees a full size living room being built inside the club, which provides the backdrop for Artwork and a selection of guests to play from throughout the night, This New Years instalment of Arts House will see guests throughout both rooms, with the second hosted by French night club and music label Concrete Music.

Dream Don’t Sleep at Tobacco Dock – NYD
Dream Don’t Sleep is the imprint founded by Maceo Plex, the unique and captivating techno master who’s filthy, gritty take on dance music has been championed by the majority of respectable DJs on the planet, winning him a residency at Circo Loco in Ibiza. LWE will be picking up the Dream Don’t Sleep banner for a special party at one of their favourite venues in the capital, Tobacco Dock. Maceo Plex will be headlining this affair joined by a huge selection of tip top guests from his label and further afield. Guest include Drumcode boss Adam Beyer, Mobilee spearhead Anja Schneider, Bicep, B.Traits, Âme, Mano Le Tough, Gardens Of God, Odd Parents, Paul Woolford, Huxley, Citizenn, Ejeca and Zoo Look, who will all be playing across three rooms. Huge!

Hidden NYE at Hidden – NYE
The first of our Manchester picks comes from new venue Hidden, which opened its doors back in the summer. Their first ever NYE party will see an unbeatable selection of fine underground selectors play across the clubs three rooms. Headlining the occasion will be tINI, who is regarded as one of the best female DJs the world over. Club De Visionaire resident and Spacehall spearhead Jan Krueger will also be playing as well as DeWalta, Jamie Trench and Mike Gill. A selection of local residents including Josimar, Sian Bennett, Anton Fitz and also residents from PlayItDown and Transmission Funk amongst many others will be turning out to support.

Black Butter Records at The Albert Hall – NYE
The Albert Hall is the second venue here to be going all weekend, with two parties planned that will be showcasing a lengthy list of house music’s freshest faces. Black Butter Records will receive a showcase on New Years Eve, the label spearheaded by Stackhouse Management. This label showcase will see a selection of staple Black Butter artists performing at Manchester’s most iconic music venue, with a headline performance being put in by none other than Rudimental. Also appearing will be David Rodigan, My Nu Leng, Oneman, Preditah, Melé, Nvoy, Woz and Syv.

Albert Hall & Albert’s Scholl As One at The Albert Hall - NYD
New Years Day at The Albert Hall shines the limelight on a large selection of new school house and tech favourites, hosted by The Albert Hall and Albert’s Schloss As One. On the line up is the likes of Julio Bashmore, Heidi, Bicep, Shanti Celeste, Luke Unabomber, Krysko, Now Wave, Will Tramp!, Hackett and Joy Social.

Dennis Ferrer at Gorilla – NYE
Gorilla will also be in full swing on New Years Eve as they invite house heavyweights Dennis Ferrer and Josh Butler to play alongside local favourites Pirate Copy and Dilla as well as DJs from local club nights Covert and Exploit.
