Butter Side Up returns to Wire Friday 8th April with another impressive selector after their March instalment a couple of weeks ago, which welcomed Fabric resident Craig Richards to Leeds for a performance that was infact, quite special. On April 8th it will be Evan Baggs who steps up to take control of the turntables.
Baggs hails from New York City and, albeit at a very young age, has already established himself as one of the most skilled selectors to be rising through the ranks of US DJs. Currently residing in Berlin, he has become a regular at the controls across the city, recently returning to Hoppetosse where he has been pipped most regularly. Fronting a heavily garage influenced style of house and techno, Evan Baggs’ dance floor performances are bouncy and bass heavy, however he has been known to throw in a tasteful curveball or two.
Aside from having played all over the globe, recently appearing everywhere from his Berlin haunts to Treehouse in Miami, Evan Baggs has fabricated a similarly impressive repertoire of his own music. Swapping out his garage edge for minimal stylings and drum programming that is pretty impressive; Baggs has found himself on Cabaret Records and Kurbits amongst a number of other labels.
The first imprint mentioned, Cabaret, are just about to put out the second of Evan Baggs’ EPs on the label, with this second provision being a collaboration between Baggs and Katsuya Sano, together called Ekbox. The Tidally Locked EP provides a trio of solid grooves in feat with the first, the final of which, Conversion, is already making its way into the performances of many of Evan’s peers.
Join Butter Side Up as they play host to New York’s Evan Baggs on Friday 8th April, when he will be joined by Butter Side Up residents Ciaran Hansen, Hugh Bailey and TMS.
