It’s been ten long years since Leeds’ beautiful Roundhay Park hosted a major outdoor concert, but that’s coming to an end this September as OnRoundhay Festival launches with a wealth of indie icons in support. Headlined by Mancunian guitar rockers James and Glasgow legends Primal Scream, the festival has been designed with the whole family in mind, and will offer plenty of activities for children as well as a huge range of tasty food stalls.
Kids (and therefore parents) will be especially delighted with what’s on offer, thanks to the likes of live readings on the Magical Storytelling Stage, performances from CBeebies favourites and opportunities to meet childhood heroes like Spot the Dog and Peter Rabbit. Dressing up prizes for the best book character costume will sweeten the deal even more, whilst the Village Green Sports Day will get little legs moving with sack and egg and spoon races. Kids under 12 years will even get in for free!
For those music fans not needing to worry about the little ones, the sister festival to London’s OnBlackheath has got you covered as well. In partnership with John Lewis, the festival organisers have splashed the cash to bring in some top quality musical acts, with modern grungers Wolf Alice and the upcoming artist Max Jury standing out just as much as the headliners. The Haggis Horns will offer a side helping of funk, soul and hip-hop to balance out the abundance of indie talent, and more names are going to be announced as the event draws nearer and excitement builds.
The park setting will make it a lovely day out for people of all ages, so it’ll be party time for all the family when OnRoundhay gets underway on September 17th.
