Nominated for the Merucry Prixe last year from his album Immunity, Jon Hopkins is one of the most exciting names in the world of underground electronic music - with his live act pulling in discerning crowds the whole world over (including other upcoming performances at the likes of Sonar Festival, Feild Day, Dimensions Festival and more). Not content on staying still, Jon has been speaking recently about how his live act is evolving, as the tracks begin to take on new forms (often finding themselves in heavier forms of late). With a lot of work planned for his live show between now and the summer, the Parklife crowd are in for a treat.
BBC Radio 1 goddess Annie Mac has moulded the minds of many in the UK with her seminal electronic dance show on the country's most loved station. Annie is a big favourite in Manchester with numerous appearances in the past at previous Parklife Festivals and The Warehouse Project alike. 2014 will see Annie Mac take to the main stage of the festival, sharing the space with one of her "all time musical heroes"...
The BRIT Critic's Choice Award and BBC Sound of 2014 poll winner, Sam Smith will also be playing at this year's Parklife Festival in Heaton Park, Manchetser. Alongside more established acts, the brains behind the Parklife Weekender ut a big influence of emerging talent, and with already a heap of success, coupled with his recent award scoops - 2014 will almost definitely be Sam's year.
After some time away from the lime light, Mark 'MK' Kinchen has been catapulted back into the scene. Thanks to support from the Hot Creations roster and of course a string of hugely popular releases which even saw the American top the UK charts last year with his remix of Strom Queen (aka Morgan Geist) - Look Right Through, MK will be right at the top of a lot of people's must see lists for Parklife 2014.
Ben UFO, still remains one of the very few DJs living purely off his ability to select and mix tunes. In the present day scene, where producers are ten a penny and every DJ-come-producer is looking to score a few gigs off the back of a have decent deep house release, Ben Thompson (aka Ben UFO) remains a breath of fresh air for the purist fans. With a regular radio show on Rinse FM along with his Hessle Audio compadres and frequent gigs at the world's most loved clubs, Ben remains one of the finest DJs on the planet.
The second Hessle Audio member signed up for Parklife Weekender 2014 is David Kennedy (Pearson Sound). First making moves in music under a different monika, Ramadanman, David Kennedy became Pearson Sound in 2010. A string of releases followed on the likes of Nigh Slugs, SunkLo, Nonplus Record, Hessle Audio and his own self-releasing label Pearson Sound. Along side the rest of the Hessle Audio crew, David continues to push the boundaries of underground music, cementing himself as one of the most in demand names on the circuit.
All female four piece American indie band, War Paint will also be taking to the stage at Parklife 2014. Formed back in 2004, the band - made up of Emily Kokal, Theresa Wayman, Jenny Lee and Stella Mozgawa - have recently released their self-titled album (Warpaint). When describing their recent album release, memebers not R&B and rap as infleunces, with drum machines and ambient music also making appearances - not your standard indie album it would seem.
