If you’ve watched the news at any point in the last few weeks you’ll be well aware that the world outside has become rather unpredictable, but one thing that shouldn’t surprise you is the news that the much-anticipated Pete Rock & CL Smooth show at The Garage on September 2nd has already sold out. Fortunately, admirers of the legendary duo’s soul and jazz infused hip hop, the addition of a new date in September at the recently rejuvenated Jazz Café might just provide the morale boost that’s we’re all in need of.
The duo will take to the Jazz Café on Monday 5th of September, and perform tracks from their rich back catalogue as they celebrate the 25th anniversary of their debut EP All Souled Out. As a pioneer of jazz sampling, Pete Rock took no time at all to establish himself as one of the best producers in the game, at a time when he was blessed with esteemed contemporaries such as Wu Tang Clan, Notorious BIG, Nas and Public Enemy. Often producing alongside these heroes of hip hop, Pete found his permanent sparring partner in CL Smooth, with whom he would go on to trade rhymes across two full-length LPs and stride effortlessly into the hip hop history books.
With this second opportunity arising to see the pair do what they do best, make sure you don’t get caught sleeping for a second time.
