British urban artist Ray BLK has been crowned the BBC’s Sound Of 2017, beating the likes of Rag ‘N’ Bone Man, AJ Tracey, Jorja Smith and Nadia Rose to the number one spot.
Ray BLK joins a lists of artists such as Adele, Ellie Goulding and Jack Garratt who have topped the poll compiled by critics and industry figures.
Reeling off sassy, straight talking rhymes with the backing of smooth RnB beats, the East London artist’s early output earmarked her as a preliminary star, with statements of intent coming in the form of tracks ‘50/50’ and ‘My Hood’ featuring Stormzy. Followed up by her recently self released mini album Durt - a record that takes an inspired and positive take on her upbringing in London - Ray BLK looks set to springboard right to the very top of the UK urban scene. And with grime reigning supreme, the heights of achievement will be limitless for the latest BBC Sound Of winner.
Ray BLK is set to perform at The Great Escape 2017, which takes place across multiple venues in Brighton from 17th-20th May.
