Walking through the doors of Ushuaϊa it was hard to escape the grand nature of the venue, with its spectacular arena overlooking a unique area. Standing outside in the basking sunshine next to the pool in the middle of the venue really did make for an unforgettable day. Another impressive feature about this venue is the way certain rooms look out onto the arena, giving guests an unrivalled musical offering throughout their entire stay.
This past weekend it was the turn of ANTS, global giants in techno and house parties, to take over the Playa d’en Bossa location. Bringing the biggest names from all over and unleashing their talents on this five-star club is what they have done with aplomb for the last six years. Last Saturday saw English trio Nic Fanciulli, Maya Janes Coles and wAFF take to the decks alongside Puerto Rican-born DJ Sneak, Parisian duo II FACES and Swiss superstar Andrea Oliva.
As Nic Fanciulli gave a masterclass in how to unleash house music, there was a sea of cheers every time a plane cruised across in the sky. The Grammy-nominated producer has become one of the biggest house acts to hail from the UK in recent years, putting out signature releases whilst also expressing his stamp on other music such as the brilliant remix of ‘Ascension’ by Gorillaz.
Throughout his set, Fanciulli was proving to be a popular figure both with the crowd and the entourage of guests behind him, who were all erupting into a sea of flailing limbs with each passing record.
Taking over the reins to close out the number two-ranked club in the world was Oliva, who continued to carry on where Fanciulli left off, working impressive sorcery on the turntables in front of him. Whilst the crazy mix was unfolding on stage, there were amazingly ludicrous sights happening all around, with dancers moving to the beat on towers high above the crowd.
If that seemed extravagant it was even more surreal to see people dancing in a small paddling pool at the back, almost hypnotized by the wondrous aural journey Oliva was crafting.
When an artist plays a set a defining moment is how they decide to round up their appearance. Without any shadow of a doubt Oliva picked some unbelievable records to conclude, first deciding to mesmerize the masses of people with a super edgy remix of Shakedown’s 'At Night' by Peggy Gou.
Then, when everyone had presumed the night was over, music started playing again and it happened to be one of the funkiest melodies to be released last year, with mass cheers erupting to the sound of KiNK’s ‘Perth’.
By the end of the evening an everlasting impression had been left, with the combination of a grandiose venue like Ushuaϊa and stellar musicians making for a staggeringly brilliant event.
