Jupiter’s own Nicolas Lutz has an exceptional reputation and rightly so. He’s one of the most notorious deep diggers in the game and has gained a following for his adventurous, fierce, and unpredictable style. His return to Leeds certainly is welcome and this time we’ve been gifted a 4 hour extended set. Where better than dark gloomy basement of Wire Club to take us on a journey that only Lutz could deliver? It was refreshing to have the heavyweight in a Leeds venue that matched his often ferocious approach to DJing. The in-house Isonoe rotary mixer was in full force driving Wire Club’s Funktion One sound system, making it sound crisper than ever.
Butter Side Up’s own Ciaran Hansen was in control for the first three hours, whipping up a concoction of vigorous breaks and flawless techno. Throughout Hansen’s warm up it was easy to get a sense of anticipation amongst the dancers, all seemingly aware of the special occasion.
Nicolas Lutz set the tone instantly with a forthcoming Craig Richard’s record, 'My Friend Is Losing His Mind'. A monstrously tough hitter that takes no prisoners, it was evident immediately who was now in control. The night continued as Omar’s ‘Ampozup’ pumped through the system later on with no sign of deceleration. Spacey techno, rough breaks and electro guided us through to the morning with Lutz hardly taking his foot off the pedal. The musical trip we were provided with left no doubt in my mind that Nicolas Lutz is indeed from another planet.
