In:Motion / Crack Magazine
Rødhad, Daniel Avery, Avalon Emerson & more
Saturday 10th December
Motion, Bristol

Words by Adrian Taylor

Bristol based Crack magazine pulled out all the stops for the most recent In:Motion night, bringing Rodhad, Daniel Avery and more to the party. Crack has built its reputation amongst the underground community by living and breathing quality music - this night was set to be no exception.

On arrival the queue already seemed endless, further displayed by the constant trickling in of eager party-goers throughout Avalon Emerson’s set. With Daniel Avery on at 2am, the anticipation continued to grow and the warehouse filled, but thankfully not enough for Motion to become the scrum it can sometimes be.

As you would expect from Avery, his set fluctuated between minimal techno and atmospheric sections. Not afraid to stray from constant 4x4, he mesmerised the crowd well thought out with patient builds. Although it is hard to pick a favourite track, Fango – ‘Valvae’ (Viscera 1/3) brought about a discernible rise in the crowd’s energy as its menacing bass took over the airy pads, reverberating around the room.

Two hours passed, and before I knew it Rodhad taken over the controls, filling the room with pounding techno from thereon out. In his typical fashion the Berlin powerhouse offered little relent from then until close, with his satisfying monotony hitting the spot for all present.

Crack’s reputation for curating nights is sure to grow and grow if they continue to book such high calibre DJs and producers. I, for one, will be checking in on their upcoming listings and would highly recommend others do the same.
