Frontline x Bizzar Present: A Night In The Forest
Solardo, Toucan & More
Thursday 2nd June
Mint Club, Leeds

Mint Club played host to the second of Frontlines’ A Night In The Forest events for a big end of term blow out. Frontline x Bizzar paired up to take ravers off track and into the wilderness. With Solardo headlining and Mint transformed into an enchanted forest, complete with the DJ booth dressed in woodland decor reflecting a tree house, everything was in place for an unforgettable night. A Night in The Forest events offer more than simply bouncing to a DJ, with unique twists such as free face paint, molding standard club goers into glittering critters of the forest.

First to shake up the Tree House where locals WILHELM b2b AGAIA. Mixing a variation of techno and tech house such as the pair dropped Christian Piers Beat Wiser, featuring a 303 bassline which had everybody grooving. Another highlight was Jaap Ligthart feat. Alice Rose I Know Change (Show B instrumental), an eerie spacey number that stopped everybody in their tracks and had all heads facing the booth.

The party didn’t stop outside, with the smoking area situated right beside the dancefloor transformed into a woodland disco. Disco balls swung from the ceiling, forest decor and mood lighting filled the area. You did not simply step outside, but into the next section of the wilderness.

Frontline A Night In The Forest - Toucan

When the clock struck 1am Toucan were welcomed to the stage. After their success in reaching the top 10 in Beatports ‘Must hear Tech House’ chart, excited grew to see what the girls had to offer. Unfortunately, on the night we were only graced by one member of the duo, however, this wasn’t at all noticeable. Toucan began her set with a batch of lively tech house tunes which had the room bouncing. The atmosphere in the room was electric as we fed off each other's energy being fuelled by Toucan’s set full of crowd cheers and hands held high.

After a number of successful releases on Skream’s ‘Of Unsound Mind’ label and fresh from a Manchester show that sold out in 30 minutes, it was exciting to welcome Solardo into the forest. The boys stepped up to the Tree House and began their set with a groovy selection of tunes such as David Glass’ In My Heart and David Harness’ Taking It To The Head, drawing the crowd towards the booth. The set gradually got harder, and ravers lost themselves as the strobe flashed rigorously alongside Mark Hennings Trojan as well as DJ Blues’ Lose the North. Solardo did not struggle to keep the dancefloor swarmed, with big tunes such as Traumers’ critically acclaimed Hoodlum. It was easy to see the boys were having fun, instantaneously raising energy levels of the crowd. A special highlight was dancing with James from the duo on his way to the bathroom and back. The crowd went wild upon recognition of the duos recent release 50K Watts which had fists held high beneath the laser canopy. Further notable selcetions included their hit Ibiza anthem New Jam which was welcomed with cheers and fists pumping towards the projections on screens in the booth.

All in all another huge success for the Frontline boys. A great night with a variation in sound and good vibes throughout. Frontline know how to host a party and I look forward to the next in the series of A Night In The Forest!
