For the past six years, Selective Hearing have been spreading their musical mark all over the UK, with parties that have invited the cream of the crop from the worlds of techno and house to play in countless venues in three cities. As Leeds and Manchester have no doubt been the brands breeding grounds, there will be two parties, one in Manchester and one in Leeds to celebrate Six Years of the brand. Part one saw Selective Hearing bring the ‘jefe’ of techno, Oscar Mulero, to Manchester on the 4th of March with part 2 set to take place in Leeds on the 24th of March.
Selective Hearing has thrown parties in a couple of Leeds nightclubs over the years, however the first and foremost location that has held their parties is Wire. Perfect for the dark, gritty, fast paced and industrial music policy that selective hearing employ, it has served perfect parties that have seen Kowton, Levon Vincent, DVS1, Elphino, Marquis Hawkes and Shifted at the controls. For this sixth anniversary knees up however, the guys behind the party have invited Panorama Bar’s leading lady to usher in their next year. None other than Steffi.
Regularly appearing on Ostgut Ton’s record label as well as at its infamous nightclub, Steffi has gained a well-deserved amount of respect for her eclectic performances that have seen her play in both rooms at the Berlin ‘techno temple’. Although much of it is not quite like her dance floor selections, her own music that has been released on the Ostgut imprint as well as Dolly and Underground Quality is quite beautiful. Her LP Yours & Mine is one of the standout LPs on Ostgut Ton, as trancey leads meet deep house beats and soulful vocals. Behind the turntable though, it’s a different strong. Tight mixing and ripe, diverse selections that are perfectly paced, her performances are always spectacular.
Joining Steffi will be Ste Roberts, the Hypercolour co-founder, who has been a regular at Selective Hearing for some time. Known for his steady and mood setting warm up sets, he will likely open up the evening, as this reputation precedes him. Selective Hearing resident Reflec will round off the affair, lining up a tasty sixth birthday party that will be too good to miss.
Following on from their sixth birthday celebrations with Steffi, further Selective Hearing events are set to welcome Dekmantel's Palms Trax to Manchester on 22nd April with support from Willow. April 29th will see tehcno heavyweight Randomer trade records with Tessla in Liverpool before SH return to Manchester for a set from the elusive Rrose. June 10th Selective Hearing delve back onto the Wire bassment for a showcase of the Blueprint stylings of James Ruskin.
