Now entering their third year in Leeds after a superb birthday party last month with Delano Smith and Soul Clap, Set One Twenty have established themselves amongst the highest calibre of clubbing events in the city. With high quality bookings and a residency at one of the best clubs in town, they are a force to be reckoned with.
Looking towards their next event that is due to take place on Saturday the 15th of November, it is looking to be a high quality and imaginative mix of sounds as Set One Twenty invite the marvellous Marquis Hawkes to Mint Club along with Dutch duo Beesmunt Soundsystem (pictured above). Marquis Hawkes is a DJ who would rather let the music do the talking than write a biography of who he is, where he’s from and why he does what he does. Listening to him play speaks for itself, as he is one talented guy. Not afraid to cut up tracks, experiment and go where some may not dare, he is an exciting selector whose transitions from upfront and bouncy house, to elegant disco and then choppy techno are as smooth as a well blitzed banana milkshake.
Beesmunt Soundsystem are regulars on Lauhaus & Kabale Und Liebe’s Soweso label, and have churned out some serious chuggers on that imprint, along with many others on label like Pets and Just Jack. With a style that varies from deep, synth lead numbers to industrially reverberant techno, they have a big sound that will do all too well on Mint Club’s Funktion One’s. This will be a biggie, and as always the Set One Twenty residents will be on hand to warm up the melting pot, this time calling upon Layer and Kag.
