Sunfall welcome Moodymann, Omar S, Joy Orbison & more for London debut

Sunfall welcome Moodymann, Omar S, Joy Orbison & more for London debut

Sunfall is a new festival based at South London’s Brockwell Park, opening its doors for the first time on July 9th 2016. Serving up a taste of the full spectrum of London sounds, Sunfall provides beats for dancing to from midday until late into the next morning, with the end of the day’s sunlight preceding the handing over of procedures to eight of London’s finest nightclubs at.

Curated by the new kid on the block in Brixton, the ultra chic Phonox, the inaugural event takes names including Moodymann, Anthony Naples, Kamasi Washington and Hunee, throwing them together in a bold attempt at creating one of this summer’s pinnacle parties. Representatives of Berlin’s Panorama Bar, Detroit, London and Glasgow will all be gathered, and from hip hop to techno, jazz to drum & bass, no dance music stone will be left unturned.

Night shift responsibilities will be shared between a variety of London’s favourite venues, each of which will offer a unique flavour with their sterling lineups. Canavan’s Peckham will be given over to Mister Saturday Night x Rhythm Section, and nearby CLF Art Cafe aka Bussey Building will set the stage for Dimensions Festival. Meanwhile, over in Elephant & Castle, Corsica Studios offer up city favourite Deviation and The Coronet welcomes Jamie xx and friends.

The railway arches of Vauxhall’s Fire will be the surroundings for dub and drum & bass specialists Outlook and Metalheadz, and to complete the collection, Brixton is blessed with three after party venues in Phonox, Effra Social and Electric Brixton. At Phonox, Glasgow to Detroit sees a transatlantic merger of two cities with a rich dance music heritage, whilst Effra Social has earned the privilege of hosting Dele Sosimi’s Afrobeat Vibration project. The final piece of the puzzle, Electric Brixton will be taken over by Studio 89, the promoters who have risen from a takeaway basement in Cardiff to become nationally renowned party starters.

It might be the first year that it has run, but the event certainly has the backing of a significant portion of London’s most influential brands and figures, and looks like it could be the start of something huge. If it can live up to the billing, Sunfall will surely mark its territory as one of the best new festivals in the country, and become a permanent fixture in our capital’s summer diary.
