Friday September 30th with see Sven Väth take to EGG London, playing for four hours on a night that also includes Dorian Paic and the EGG resident DJs. The show will act as a replacement for a night originally arranged for Studio 338 on October 1st, which was forced to close after a huge fire at the start of August.
Having been DJing since the tender age of 18, ‘Papa Sven’ is as accomplished a selector as any other on the techno circuit, and is revered for his contribution to the development of dance music not just in his homeland of Germany, but also in Ibiza, where Cocoon has been a standout on the Amnesia fixtures list since 1999. A strong proponent of the vinyl medium, Väth has been collecting the finest house, techno and trance wax that he can get his hands on for over 30 years, and few names hold more clout than his when it comes to DJs. Leader of the label, booking agency and events branch Cocoon, which includes the Leeds festival Cocoon in the Park among its list of successful ventures, Sven has been putting himself about all over the underground electronic music world, leaving discernable traces wherever he goes.
Now recognised as Germany’s biggest techno popstar, Väth is also known for his spiritual life outside of music and the occasional mammoth set; having once played for 32 hours straight, back in the heady days of the mid-90s at Berlin’s Love Parade, he’ll certainly not struggle to fill his four hour allocation in London. His natural home, after all, is behind the decks.
