May is the month where it all kicks off for System and Set One Twenty; the Leeds clubbing giants who hold their next level terrace parties both at the beginning and the end of the month every year. Last year, the likes of Zip, Mr G, tINI, Dyed Soundorom and Soul Capsule all played either on the decked out and Funktion One rigged terrace or inside Mint Warehouse’s main room, which opens in the evening. This year we have been treated to two equally as exciting line ups, with the first taking place on Sunday 1st of May and the second to be held on Sunday May 29th.
The first of the two will see one of the best DJing trios in the business playing on the terrace, Apollonia. Each of the three is a fantastic DJ in their own right, with one third of them having played last year on the same weekend. This year, he brings his two mates to do the dance floor duties once again, which will no doubt erupt to their Parisian grooves that have seen them become one of the most in demand collectives of today.
The next to be joining Apollonia for the first Bank Holiday terrace party in may will be B.Traits, who has been causing a stir recently through her back to back performances with Drumcode staple Alan Fitzpatrick. Her bouncy bass heavy music has been swapped for straight up techno, with this appearance likely being a later slot in the main room. Finally the continuation of Fusic at Mint Warehouse will be taken care of by Archie Hamilton. The Londoner has never played in Leeds before, making this entire line up one that’s very exciting indeed.
The second of the two terrace parties that will take place at the back end of the month is arguably the most exciting, as it will welcome one the worlds most talented DJs to the terrace, none other that Ricardo Villalobos. Ricardo last appeared in Leeds at Cocoon In The Park last year, which saw him perform a controversial set for many of the attendees there. The unconventional yet unrivalled skills Villalobos possesses won’t returning to Temple Newsam this year, but we are very pleased to see that he will be making a return to Mint Warehouse after his fantastic performance at the Cocoon event here a few years ago.
To make the party even more exciting, we will also be welcoming back tow DJs who put in the best performances of all who appeared at System’s winter parties over the last 6 months. RPR’s Rhadoo and Nicholas Lutz. Nicholas Lutz famously warmed up for Carl Craig in December with his steady build proving to be one of the most captivating performances of the series, whilst Rhadoo closed the birthday in a the twisted but grand way only he knows how. This will be one for those who like their music with a journey that dips, peaks and dives, as these three selectors are no doubt some of the best in the business at manipulating an atmosphere.
