Returning strong after their 7th Birthday with Sonja Moonear, Paranoid London and Rossko, System will be playing host to one of Berlin’s finest exports this weekend in Nick Höppner, who will be joined by Mint Club favourite, Guti.
Known foremost for his monthly residency at the infamous Berghain/Panorama Bar, Höppner crafts a perilous but perfectly crafted and widely ranged performance, which often yearns serious dance floor movement. Early sets will see him spin soulful, sometimes disco tinged house that have even been started with impressively moulded beat less soundscapes. A closing set on the other hand will see him dig deep in his extensive collection of industrial, hard edged techno that bring elation to the darkest corners of Berlin’s most notorious club. As an also established producer, Nick has had a platter of releases on the clubs record label Ostgut Ton, which takes its name from Berghain’s former venue that was unfortunately demolished in 2003. Red Hook Soil and A Peck And A Pawn are just a couple of the German’s releases on the Ostgut imprint, however a debut album is expected at the end of March, meaning a performance at the beginning of the month will likely helm plenty of his own exciting unreleased material.
Once again, Guti is no stranger to Mint Club having played countless times over the past few years when System have welcomed the likes of Cocoon Heroes and Desolatismus (pictured below), not to mention at their annual festival that took place at Lincolnshire Showground last year.
Guti is a staple artist of Loco Dice and Martin Buttrich’s Desolat record label and brings a live performance that encompasses a large amount of his own material, which he melds to his liking in the however is fits the club he is playing. Last year his second artist album Rompecorazones was launched at Defected’s pop up shop in London’s Boxpark and moved away from what we would come to expect from the peak time headliner, as he delivered a 12 track album of jazz and electronica, nevertheless it was a beautiful LP. Having just released a Rompecorazones remix album, whilst always showcasing new material at his shows, he will hopefully be the second artist here to bring an unfamiliar surprise.
