The winners of 2016’s DJ Mag Best Of British awards were revealed last night at a live ceremony hosted by London club egg. The evening saw awards given to categories such as Best Small Club and Best Dance Music Festival as well as DJ sets performed by the likes of Joey Negro, Denis Sulta and Sir Sypro.
Notable winners on the night included Carl Cox, who was unequivocally given the Outstanding Contribution award after ending his famed Space Ibiza residency in September. Best DJ of 2016 was a hard fought contest, with UKG king and 24-hour marathon man DJ EZ emerging victorious. Irish duo Bicep were rewarded for their signature ability to create pumping dance floor fillers as they took home the Best Producer award. Fellow duo Dusky were also victorious winning Best Live Act, while honourable mentions go to Annie Nigjtengale who was awarded Soldier Of The Scene.
With reopening parties coming in January, Fabric ran out winners in the Best Large Club category, capping off a year that saw the club faced with closure before having its licence reinstated thanks to the #SaveOurCulture campaign. Manchester emerged from the evening with its reputation as a melting point for UK club culture still in tact. Hidden, still a fresh face on the Manchester scene, took home best small club with The Warehouse Project were awarded the gong for Best Club Series.
