As the year is coming to end and the UK festival season is undoubtedly over, the UK Festival Awards have announced their list of nominees who will be going up against each other to win coveted awards that will recognise their efforts. From the more minute details from the past year that include Best Toilets and the Anthem of The Summer to Best New Festival and Best Overseas Festival, there are categories for all sizes, types and locations.
Nominees for Best Major Festival include Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds and Parklife whilst South West Four, We Are FSTVL, Wildlife, Kendal Calling and Lytham Festival receive credit on the shortlist for Best Medium Sized Festival. A total of 75 festivals nominated for Best Small Festival prove vast inclusivity with Standon Calling and The Social both in the running. Dance festivals including EDC and Parklife once again receive a dedicated category and those in the running for Best Family Festival include Kendal Calling, Festival Number 6 and Standon Calling.
Also paying tribute to festivals outside the UK, as there oh so many good ones, there is also the Best Overseas Festival award. Here nominees include Horizon Festival, Hideout, Ibiza Rocks and Lost & Found.
A whole host of festivals are up for the Best Toilets category, which might be a hard one to judge for yourself, and finally those who performed at the festivals nominated are all in the limelight also, as Best Headline Performance is one of the final categories. Contenders include Björk at Wilderness Festival, Grace Jones at Festival Number 6 and also The Libertines at Reading & Leeds, the latter of which you can read about here with our Leeds Festival review.
With 12 categories in total, this is the chance for the people of the UK to speak out and award the tens of hundreds of hours of effort put in to those who organise the one-day, weekend and weeklong escapes that we all look forward to so much.
