UNKLE have announced a new album together with the unveiling of a brand new single taken from the LP titled Cowboys or Indians. The announcement came before his UNKLE:REDUX show, which took place last week at Somerset House.
As of yet, there is no official date for the album release, however we have been treated to a few words from frontman James Lavelle: “Right back since the beginning I’ve always wanted to make a records that come from a soul background. For some reason it never happened, so I’ve gone right back to the beginning, like Massive Attack’s Blue Lines or Smith & Mighty. I wanted to give good sound system records a modern twist. It’s a nod to my childhood”.
Recorded in Berlin, London and Somerset, the LP comes from hip-hop roots and looks back at the way James grew up with records as a teenager. There are collaborations with Elliott Power, YSÉE and Mïnk, which Lavelle says is to bring in a multi-cultural element, and the artwork has been designed by the internationally-renowned and Glasgow-based artist Nathan Cowley.
