Village Underground and Lovebox have teamed up to present a series of events dubbed ‘East Meets’, during which a number of internationally recognised club brands will come over to London throughout the autumn and winter to showcase their way of doing things at Village Underground, which is renowned for being one of the best clubs in the capital.
The first on the hit list is Colors, the Amsterdam based party that blends house music and bass music together with a flurry of genre defying artists and forward thinking labels. Having thrown a number of parties in what was formerly Amsterdam’s most treasured club, Trouw, Colors is no amateur group of music lovers. Since Trouw closed its doors Colors have only thrown one party and will be itching to get right back at it.
The 20th of September will be when the series kicks off as Colors bring one of techno’s most forward thinking producers to Village Underground, Joy Orbison. Known today for his house and techno that comes sharpened with garage influence, Joy Orbison is super creative whilst making music and not afraid to mix up a performance with unexpected twists and turns. Joy Orbison had early success with a number of tracks geared towards dub, these being Hyph Mngo and the earlier The Shrew Would Have Cushioned The Blow, which were dance floor weapons for some time. Today Joy O relishes releases on SunkLo, Hotflush and Aus and regularly plays all night long sets as well as occasional back-to-back performances with the likes of Boddika and the second guest here, Job Jobse.
Job Jobse is a name synonymous with Amsterdam as learnt the ropes at the legendary Club 11, thereafter working as the booking manager at Colors spiritual home, Trouw. Having focused on DJing for a while now Job Jobse is appearing more and more on line-ups all over the world. The final guest for the evening will be Cinnaman. Another native of Colors home country, he is part of the infamous Record Store crew from Rush House and has been the talk of the town recently as he closed The Lab at Dekmantel Festival, which many have credited as one of the highlights of the weekend.
These three artists will come together to represent what Colors Amsterdam parties are all about, and after the guys behind the brand have not been able to do what they do best for some time, it’s safe to say this will be full steam ahead.
