On Friday the 27th June, the multi-award winning R&B artist Kelis will be gracing The Institute in Birmingham for a night filled with her unequivocal, futuristic take on the urban sound.

Hailing from Manhattan in New York, Kelis was raised by her father, a reputable jazz musician and mother, whose inspiration consequently caused Kelis to grow into one of the most well loved female R&B singers of the new millennium. Kelis’ debut album ‘Kaleidoscope’ was hugely well received, with highlights ‘Caught Out There’ and ‘Good Stuff’ having a large impact on the UK singles charts.
In 2003, the singers most notable release ‘Milkshake’ brought all the boys to the yard and reached the number one position in the US Hot Dance Club Play chart, as well as reaching the top three in the Billboard Top 100. Receiving regular play time on the radio and music channels all over the world, the single led to Kelis receiving one of two Grammy nominations firstly for Best Urban Performance that also paved the way for her third artist album ‘Tasty’ to sell four hundred thousand copies in the first two months of selling in the US alone.
Over the coming years, BRIT, Q and NME Awards washed over Kelis as she released a plethora of other revered singles such as ‘Millionaire’, ‘Not In Love’ and ‘Bossy’, some of which involved collaborations with other reputable R&B musicians and singers like Enrique Iglesias, Björk, Outkast’s André 3000 and Dallas Austin amongst many others. More recently in 2012 the single ‘Bounce’, a collaboration with British dance artist Calvin Harris was a regular player on the radio and in commercial night clubs all over the country, as well as peaking at number two in the UK Singles chart.
Currently touring the US having recently singed a her new album ‘Food’ to Ninja Tune, Kelis will be making a stop at The Institute in Birmingham on Friday the 27th June, one of only three appearances in the UK this year, meaning her many UK fans will be pining for the opportunity to see the New Yorker in action.
