How big is the world’s biggest disco ball? If you’re in Leeds on July 1st, you can see for yourself.
Coined as Leeds’ biggest ever party, The Big Disco will hope to galvanise thousands of Leeds residents with the party spirit, promoting the city nationally and internationally and proving once and for all that when it comes to partying, Leeds is a force to be reckoned with.
The party is a collaborative effort between Yorkshire Festival and Duke Studios, aiming to unite people through music as a public-elected song is danced to simultaneously across participating parties, radio stations and events - potentially setting a world record for the World’s Largest Party. With the planet-esque disco ball glittering above, 7.20pm will mark the time when the chosen track will play out for all to groove to, but the marathon event actually begins at 3, when street party with festival and carnival vibes get the day party underway
The party is expected to see 20,000 people dancing across Yorkshire, 10,000 in Leeds and another 5000 joining in online, with the city decked out with music and entertainment events, bars, street food and glitter stations in order to ensure that every element of the perfect party is delivered. Such a huge participation project will catch national and global attention, and organisers predict that it’ll be the perfect way to show off the extraordinary community that Yorkshire has to offer, boosting Leeds’ chances of being named European City of Culture 2023.
Music on the day will be a delightful selection of house, funk, soul and all things disco, with International DJs, Leeds Legends, Live acts and special surprises, whether at Big Disco, Little Discos or any of the many fringe events that will take place across town.
