One of bass music’s rowdiest children will be returning with a new album in the near future, with Zomby’s Ultra hotly anticipated thanks in no small part to some tasty collaborations. Out on September 2nd, the album will include dance music’s undisputed king of Twitter beef going back to back with the ever-enigmatic Burial, as well as Banshee, Darkstar, Rezzett and HKE.
The album merges Zomby’s futuristic take on dubstep, grime, garage and 2step with his most focussed compositions yet, carrying the striking blend of precision and unpredictability that made Zomby one of the most talked about producers in UK dance music when he burst onto the scene in 2008 with Where Were U in '92?.
Though the Burial co-op may be the headline grabber, the track “Quandary” has caught attention with its perplexing blend of stuttered percussion, chiming melodies and low synth panpipe sounds, suggestive of some of Murlo’s softer instrumental grime output. You can listen to the track, a collaboration with Darkstar, here.
